Dear fellow carillonneurs,
In October 2018, IPCC presented a report on limiting global warming to 1.5°C instead of 2°C, to be discussed at the UN climate change conference starting 2 December in Poland (COP24). It is time to urge the Parties that there is No Time to Waste! In my opinion, we - as (musical) artists - have a responsibility to draw attention to issues that matter. In this case, we have the power and means to be spokespersons of our beautiful planet. If you agree with me, please, read and share my call: Greenpeace Netherlands is trying to set the alarm bells ringing as a wake up call in as many cities as possible on December 1 at 11:58 - 12.00 am, the day before the conference. However, as carillonneurs we have a lot more bells to offer ;-) That’s why I will play the Final Countdown on the CityCarillon of Enschede on December 1st, just before the bells start tolling at 2 to 12 am. I want to make an appeal to my fellow carillonneurs all over the world: will you join me? Feel free to use my arrangement of this song:
Let's play the Final Countdown for our climate on December 1st (or another day before COP24 starts) from carillons all over the world! If you want to play more songs concerning climate change, think of eg. the Earth song, Love song to the earth, Love a lution, Big yellow taxi, Planet Earth, Wonderful world, Do no wrong.
When you have or make an arrangement of these songs, please share it with us! |
Doet u mee? |
Greenpeace actively campaigns for a green and sustainable society. We see that both citizens and politicians increasingly stand up for a clean and safe planet. But if we want to prevent dangerous global warming, we must act now.
On Monday October 8, a new report was published by IPCC, the United Nations climate panel. This report is making an assessment of the global efforts with regard to the Paris Climate Accord. It provides a number of scenarios for staying below 1.5 degrees Celsius of global warming. Governments must adapt and accelerate their climate policies. All over the world and in the Netherlands too, it is two to twelve.
That is why we want to work with you to set the alarm bells ringing for the climate. We want to underline the urgency to prevent dangerous climate change by setting the clocks in the Netherlands to '2 for 12' and by having the bells tolling or playing. At the same time, we are sending the message: 'it is not too late yet'. We can counteract the devastating global warming by acting now.
We will ring these alarm bells at the eve of the international climate summit in Poland (COP24) in December. This way we attract the attention of both our political leaders and citizens to speed up the transition to a sustainable world.
To you the question if you want to join us by playing the carillon on Saturday, December 1, 2018 from 2 to 12 til 12 midday (for 2 minutes). We have also sought cooperation with Dutch churches, so that together we can sound the national/ international climate alarm throughout the country/ world."
